Kiratha
Sasthashtakam

Translated by

P.R.Ramachander

(

(Lord Kiratha (hunter) Sastha is the son born   Lord Shiva and
Goddess Parvathi when they  took the form of hunters to  give
Pasupathasthra   to  Arjuna. This form is worshipped in Erumeli
Kotta temple  , Baluserry Kotta temple  , Nilambur temple  ,
Trivandrum Kizhakke  Kotta temple  . The great book “SAthru Pooja
Kalpadruman” explains in detail   the method of worship of Kirtha
Sastha (I am indebted for this information to Sri Aravind Subramanyam,  a
young authority   on everything   related to Sastha)

There is an opinion held by  people
that  The Vettakku Oru Magan  worshipped   in many temples
(including Baluserry Kotta temple)    in Malabar , where there
are few  temples dedicated  to  Sastha, is same as Kirata
Sastha)
